Geetanjali Ray: From Amera School Ground to International Glory with Team India

Geetanjali Ray’s journey reflects exactly that.

From training at Amera School Ground in Baloda Bazar district to representing India in Bali, Indonesia, her story is one of steady progress built on grassroots foundations. 

Early Beginning in Baloda Bazar

Geetanjali Ray began playing Ball Badminton in Class 8. What started as a school sport gradually became a serious competitive pursuit. Training consistently at Amera School Ground, she developed her technical base under the guidance of her coach, the late Sant Bhatpahari Sir.

She specialized in the Centre/Front position, one of the most demanding roles on the court. A centre/front player must react quickly, control the net area, intercept fast returns, and maintain attacking pressure. This position demands sharp reflexes, court awareness, and mental alertness — qualities she steadily developed over the years.

National-Level Experience

Geetanjali went on to play in 9+ National Championships, gaining exposure against top players across India. Competing repeatedly at national level builds tactical maturity and match temperament — something that cannot be learned in practice alone.

Each national appearance strengthened her confidence and refined her gameplay.

International Trials – The Breakthrough Moment

On November 8, 2025, she appeared for the International Selection Trials held in Delhi. Selection for Team India in Ball Badminton is highly competitive, with limited spots available.

Through disciplined performance and strong court presence, Geetanjali Ray earned her selection to represent Team India.

IND–Indonesia International Test Series 2026

She was selected for the India–Indonesia Ball Badminton International Test Series, held in Bali, Indonesia, from February 14 to February 19, 2026.

The series featured competitive matches between the Indian and Indonesian teams at an international standard. Representing India at this level carries both pride and responsibility.

The final outcome:

Winner Team – India

Geetanjali Ray played her role as a Centre/Front player with discipline and determination, contributing to India’s overall team victory.
