Indian Railways Introduces Videography and Biometric Verification for Sports Quota Recruitment

Indian Railways has introduced a major reform in the sports quota recruitment process to improve transparency and ensure fair selection of athletes across the country. Under the newly implemented rules, no sportsperson will now be recruited without proper videography of trials and biometric verification.

The Railway Board has issued instructions to all railway zones making these procedures mandatory with immediate effect. The decision has been taken to eliminate possibilities of favoritism, fake participation, or irregularities during sports quota selections.

According to officials, every field trial conducted for recruitment will now be recorded through videography. This step is expected to create greater accountability during the selection process and will also serve as evidence in case of future disputes or complaints regarding trials.

Along with video recording, biometric attendance has also been made compulsory for all candidates. Athletes appearing for trials will have to verify their identity through fingerprints and photographs to ensure that only genuine candidates participate in the recruitment process.

Railways will also conduct strict verification of sports certificates and educational documents submitted by applicants. The verification process will involve concerned National Sports Federations and Education Boards to confirm the authenticity of the records.

The new system is being seen as a significant move toward maintaining fairness and credibility in sports quota appointments. For years, questions had been raised regarding transparency in trials and selections. With the introduction of technology-based verification and monitoring, Indian Railways aims to make the recruitment process more reliable and corruption-free.

The order was reportedly issued by Railway Board Deputy Director (Sports) Ravinder Kumar and has already come into effect across all railway zones in India.
