Sabavat Babu Naik: From a Remote Tribal Village in Telangana to International Gold for India

In the landscape of Indian Ball Badminton, some stories stand out not just for medals, but for the journey behind them.

Sabavat Babu Naik’s journey begins in Devulathanda — a remote tribal agency village in Achampet Mandal, Nagarkurnool District, Telangana. Born to Mr. Kishan and Mrs. Devi, he rose from modest beginnings to represent India at the international level, proving that geography does not limit destiny.

His story is not built on shortcuts. It is built on discipline, resilience, and relentless effort.

Early Introduction to Ball Badminton

Sabavat Babu Naik began playing Ball Badminton in 2012 while studying in the 7th standard. What started as school-level participation quickly transformed into a competitive pursuit.

His early breakthrough came in the 8th standard when he competed at the Sub-Junior Inter-District Championship held in Bonakal, Khammam District. This exposure marked the beginning of his structured competitive journey.

In the 9th standard, he secured a Gold Medal at the Inter-District Championship in Armur, signaling his growing dominance at the district level.

During his 10th standard, he achieved a significant milestone — winning a Gold Medal at the School Games Federation of India (SGFI) State-Level Championship held in Nalgonda. This victory earned him selection for the SGFI National Championship, placing him among India’s top school-level players.

Building Consistency Through National Exposure

In his Intermediate First Year, he represented the undivided Mahabubnagar District at the Inter-District Championship in Warangal.

Over the past decade (10–12 years), Sabavat Babu Naik has consistently participated in numerous district, state, and national tournaments. His participation includes:

•SGFI Sub-Junior National Championships

•Federation Cup competitions

•Multiple district and state-level events

Across these platforms, he secured multiple medals, steadily strengthening his technical skills, match temperament, and competitive maturity.

Consistency, not just talent, defined his rise.

The International Breakthrough – Bali, Indonesia

A defining moment in his career came when he was selected to represent India at the International Ball Badminton Tournament held in Bali, Indonesia (13th–19th).

Selection to Team India is highly competitive. It demands not only performance but sustained credibility across tournaments.

At the international stage in Bali, Sabavat Babu Naik proudly contributed to India’s campaign and won a Gold Medal — bringing honor to the nation and immense pride to his tribal community back home.

For a player who started from a remote village ground, standing on an international podium with the Indian flag is more than achievement — it is representation.

Discipline Behind the Success

International success is never accidental.

Sabavat Babu Naik follows a structured training routine:

Dedicated morning fitness sessions

Evening on-court technical practice

Consistent conditioning and match simulation

His growth is backed by strong mentorship and support.

He credits:

•The unwavering encouragement of his parents

•Technical guidance from Coach Bhaskar Goud Sir

•Support from Ramana Sir, Telangana General Secretary

The backbone inspiration of Dr. R.S. Praveen Kumar, IPS (Retd.), whose motivation played a transformative role in his journey

Such collective support systems are often invisible — yet they are essential in building international athletes.

A Symbol of Possibility for Rural and Tribal Youth

Sabavat Babu Naik’s journey sends a powerful message:

Talent exists everywhere. Opportunity must reach it.

From Devulathanda to Bali, his story stands as proof that rural and tribal youth can rise to international standards through discipline, perseverance, and structured competition exposure.

He is not just an international medalist — he is a role model for aspiring athletes in remote regions.

Vision for the Future

His ambition does not stop at one international tournament.

Sabavat Babu Naik aims to represent India in multiple international competitions across different countries and continue bringing laurels to the nation.

His journey reflects the growing global footprint of Indian Ball Badminton and the strength of grassroots sporting ecosystems in Telangana.

From a tribal village ground to international gold — this is not just a sports story.

It is a story of belief.
